About Rainbow
Our Mission
Empowering our community to live with hope and resilience throughout the journey through illness and loss.
Leading the transformation of care for those in our community impacted by advanced complex illness by delivering clinical excellence, outstanding value and an exceptional experience.
Hospice is a philosophy of care intended to make people's last days as comfortable as possible.
When the time comes that a cure is no longer probable, hospice provides comfort and support to patients and families so they can focus on what matters most-living life. Hospice is not a place, but rather a type of care that can take place wherever a patient considers home. In most cases, hospice care is provided in the patient’s home, but it can also be at a hospital or the Rainbow Hospice inpatient unit, the Ark.
Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by a bereaved widow and three friends in 1981. A Medicare- certified hospice that is accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP), Rainbow is one of the oldest and largest non-profit hospice organizations serving patients and families in Chicago and the surrounding counties.
Through our services, staff, volunteers, bereavement programs and the LIFE Institute, Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care empowers people to live with hope and resilience throughout the journey with illness and loss.
Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care teams provide physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual relief to patients and families living with advanced, complex illness.
Our support continues beyond the trajectory of illness; we offer ongoing support for bereaved individuals through our Grief and Loss Services, as well as continuing education for healthcare professionals and members of the community through our LIFE Institute.
Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care is proud to serve Cook County.
